After a wonderful 4 weeks camping through central Australia our return found spring had truly arrived. Beautiful sunny days but freezing frosty mornings.
The grass growth has been fantastic – a reasonably wet August and the orchard full of bud swell. The peach trees in pink blossom and the Santa rosa plum covered in white blossom. First bud burst was the small pear.
So lots of mowing, fertilising, the first lime sulphur spray last week, an eco-oil spray on trunks to start the anti-codling moth campaign, mulching trees, cardboard around the trunks, and some hand weeding. Very pleased at the impact on the onion weed last year – this year only small clumps appearing which are easily dug up. The parts where I have been working on the broad leaf weeds have also responded well. Very encouraging!
